THE UME GROUP'S TRAINING ENSEMBLE
The Ume Group's Training Ensemble program is a 3-month long weekly course consisting of both teaching, learning, and creative components.
Members of the training ensemble receive free training in a variety of physical disciplines ranging from butoh and Japanese martial arts to yoga, gymnastics and contemporary dance.
On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, they join members of The Ume Group's growing tribe in their free and interdisciplinary "Open Training" sessions, serving both as participants and once each quarter as a guest teacher. On the alternate Tuesdays, the ensemble meets to create and refine short works of physical theatre revolving around a central theme and/or utilizing a new and specific creative process. Every three months the central themes and core creative process change. Each quarter culminates in an informal showcase & potluck at The Ume Group's rehearsal space on the Upper West Side.

WINTER 2014 - "The Unity Ensemble"
This quarter will focus on the "Union of Opposites."
The lab sessions will be led by Ume Group Training Ensemble Alumna Marie Putko who holds an Advanced Certification in Vocal Pedagogy from NYU as well as certification as a yoga dance teacher from the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. The lab sessions will focus on the "Union of Opposites" and utilize creative movement, yoga, role play, music, and voice to explore those opposites (masculine and feminine, positive and negative, light and dark, pleasure and pain) which deepen our human experience.
Occasionally there will be other performance opportunities TBD.
