|The Ume Group||
During early rehearsals for the first workshop of Butoh Electra at Syracuse University in fall 2010, The Ume Group's Lead Production Designer (and resident tea expert) Mo Geiger gave this absolutely beautiful demonstration of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
In the 2011 FringeNYC production of Butoh Electra we replaced the show's tea ceremony with a scene in which The Mother dresses Electra in a traditional Japanese yukata, which was also - admittedly - pretty awesome. Keep your eyes pealed, however, for a resurfacing of the tea ritual and a clever combination of both beautiful traditions in our upcoming production of the play, August 29 - September 8 at the Irondale Center (www.irondale.org) in Brooklyn, NY.
