A Special Thank You
(for those who have seen Butoh Electra already)
My name is Jordan Rosin, the Producing Artistic Director of The Ume Group. On behalf of the entire Ume Ensemble, I would like to thank you for coming to see Butoh Electra last week at the Irondale Center. It is our sincere and deepest pleasure to share rich cultural traditions & haunting stories with a brave and receptive audience like yourself.
We believe this piece is capable of touching people in dark and profound ways, of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable, of healing the wounded and helping us to acknowledge and embrace the darkest parts of our humanity - it is ultimately designed to be a resonant and healing experience - but now it's time to assess how well the healing works.
Did the show affect you in any particular way? Maybe your gut was in knots from the first entrance of The Usurper? Maybe your mind was racked to understand the meaning of The Mother's haunting lullaby? Maybe a cold shiver shot through your spine when Electra shared that long-held "secret for you and I" and "fastened" her brother's lips across his face. If so, great! (Your experience of the show - yourdance - looked a little like ours.) If not, that's ok too! Butoh is by it's nature an inherently personal experience and we would love to know what yours looked like while you were watching us. ;)
So write to firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment below to share your Butoh Electra stories and we'll publish them here. You'll also be entered into a drawing for 2 free tickets to one of the remaining four performances. The winner will receive an e-mail and be announced on Facebook & Twitter tomorrow, Wednesday at 4pm.
And in the meantime, tell you friendsthat there are just 4 more chances for them to catch Butoh Electra at The Irondale Center before it's gone forever.
We recommend ordering tickets online and in advance by visiting www.irondale.org.
The show runs Wednesday through Saturday this week at The Irondale Center, 85 South Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217. Show starts at 8PM.

What the press has said:
"commanding, physically impressive performances from the Ume Group."
- The Village Voice
"This visceral incarnation of Electra is not for purists or the faint-hearted. But adventurous theatergoers who like their Greek drama with a twist may enjoy Rosin's new take on the old revenge tale."
"A beautiful, cohesive interpretation of the ancient text"
