The Beauty of Challenge
Another great challenge was stepping into the director chair for the first time and believing in my power and voice as an artist. I was very comfortable leading everyone through meditation, Yoga, and Yoga dance, but the thought of directing the artists was a bit intimidating. Then I consciously made the decision to listen to the artists’ imagination and watch and shape the pieces as they organically started to emerge from our labs and open training sessions. I learned to embrace the art of listening, to loosen the reigns of control, and to simply allow the art to reveal itself through exploration of various activities. It was a beautiful journey to guide.
I consider all these challenges my triumphs and feel so honored and blessed to have led such an amazing group of artists who have shaped my path as a performer. I create music and art to be free and express myself truthfully. This is how the Unity Ensemble and The Ume Group nurtured my artistic spirit. Leslie, Lizzie, Blake, Fabio, Rachel and Julia, thank you for your presence and your dedication to the Unity Ensemble. A very special thanks to Jordan for the opportunity to lead and guide this experience and for believing in me, and to Yokko who loves seeing my power. I love you all. Shine on!
